Sign-up to help stream clean-ups
19 October 2006The Town is sponsoring a cleanup of area stream banks on Saturday November 4, 9 AM to 1 PM. You are encouraged to sign-up and participate. This is part of the statewide “NC Big Sweep” program. Please e-mail or call Wendy Smith in the stormwater management office at wwsmith@townofchapelhill.org 969-7246 by Friday October 27 to pre-register. Alternatively, show up at Umstead Park between 9 and 11 on the 4th.
Pre-registered volunteers have the option to join others along Bolin and Booker Creeks; in rural Orange County near OWASA’s Cane Creek Reservoir; at the North Carolina Botanical Garden-Morgan Creek; or at Eno River State Park. The Booker Creek plan is for the portion along the greenway from Eastgate up to the footbridge near Markham Drive, then the tributary to Booker Creek Road, including LFA’s mitigation site. The Town would also welcome cleanups on privately-owned land elsewhere, but will not use the general volunteers for that unless there is specific permission from the landowner.
For more information, please see http://www.townofchapelhill.org/index.asp?nid=221 or contact Wendy Smith.
