Excellent results for July water test!
7 July 2007Preliminary results for water sampling I conducted between 10 am and 11 am on Monday, July 2, 2007 are as follows:
#1 Dock 2 cfu
#2 Cedar Fork Creek 8 cfu
#3 Booker Creek 16 cfu
Caution level is individual reading above 400 cfu, or average above 200 cfu.
Lake water temp:
28 C (Dock) 83 F
28 C (Cedar Fork Creek forebay)
27.5 C (Booker Creek inlet arm) 82 F
This is a very good low reading. The water is also pretty clear for this time of year. I took a SECCI DISK reading today off the stone retaining wall near the guard seat and the result was 28 inches. Chip Chescheir left us the disk in 2005. I did not know we had it until our staff cleaned up the beach shed and organized the water testing supplies. This is a measurement of the turbidity of the water. I’m not sure what sort of SECCI readings we should expect, normally we don’t get water this clear. The water in the sample bottles was almost as colorless as tap water. If anyone is familiar with this test, please feel free to contact me or post a comment.
The rain gauge has not been out, so I don’t have any measure of that. I will ask the staff if they are willing to make notes and empty the gauge. This may become more important if we have a prolonged dry spell, punctuated by occasional “gully washer” rains.
Our next scheduled test will happen prior to Labor Day. I last had a volunteer trainee in August of 2005. I think we need to have others in the neighborhood who can take the samples and get them to the lab if I cannot. We are approved for Community Service hours at ECHHS, and a water test including taking samples to the lab and writing up the result for a post is 4 hrs.
